Daily Prayer

Good morning! Restless morning and a zillion thoughts. The Beatles said it in a song way back, "I'm fixing a hole where the rain came in, to stop my mind from wandering". Do you have that problem of your mind wandering when you pray? When you read the Bible? Yep, me too. So how do we fix that hole so all that "rain", a metaphor for junk and stuff that invades our minds, doesn't get in? I've discovered for me that mornings work best for me. If I pray formally at night, read the Word at night, off to la la land I go. My wife is the opposite. Pick when you can fill your mind with the things of God. Lunch time, break time, after work, after supper, whatever works for your body and mind. Now like anything else, we must make it a point to do this until it becomes a habit, then it becomes normal. Arm yourself with an attitude that you can and will make time for these things and the enemy isn't going to thwart you endeavour.

Colossians 2:13-15
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
NIV

Ephesians 2:1-10
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
NAS

Do you see that? Don't make excuses because we have the power of God in us and through him we can overcome obstacles that get in the way of our learning and getting closer to God. "The devil made me do it" as Flip Wilson so eloquently said years ago doesn't wash. That is a cop out. Give in and satan has power, resist and he has to flee. Jesus said so. Even 1 verse a day with a, "lord help" prayer is a start. What better time than today! Remember Debbie Major, pulled a ham string...

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the power of your Word. Thank you for the power to rebuke evil in your name! Thank you for showing us wisdom that is wiser than anything in the world. Lord we ask for strength and perseverance to commit to study and prayer daily. Open our eyes to how and when is best for us. Lord we know you walk with us all and we ask that we be so aware of that fact that we skip and whistle with joy. Lord we lift Debbie up, heal her. Lord we ask protection for our troops and for our children. Thank you in Jesus name, amen
