daily prayer

    Good morning! How are we faithing? Some dismiss the old testament as irrelevant. Some say it's all eye for an eye. This simply not true. Look at this;

Lev 19:18
You shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people; but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am Jehovah.

That is so interesting. Even before Jesus came we were suppose to be loving and considerate of each other. It was due to the hardness of our hearts that all those rules were put on us. We as humans have a propensity toward stuff we ought not do. I hear it and you hear it, "I'll get even" and similar statements therefore rules were established or we would have destroyed each other ages ago. Jesus came and provided a way for us to see heaven and eternal life with God and he emphasized that Levitical statement with this;

Mat 22:36-40
  Master, which is the great commandment in the Law?  Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

Paul repeated the same for us gentiles;

 Rom 13:9
For: "Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not bear false witness; do not lust;" and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

When we really dive into the Bible we find the same things apply from the old testament and the new testament simply opened up the way we ought to live and our understanding of scripture. We are not judged by all our mistakes because Jesus bore those on the cross but we now can see a better way because of salvation through Jesus so we desire to follow the rules put forth. They make sense and actually are in our heart because of Jesus. How does this work? The Holy Spirit indwells when we are saved and our own conscience attests to the righteousness of those rules. Burdensome they are not but we delight in them. How about you?

Heavenly Father,
  Thank you for the holy scriptures that feed our souls. Open them up to us as we read so we live better. Lord we ask for a blessing for those who are being persecuted for their faith and ask you protect them. Lord keep us on the straight and narrow path and speak to us through your Holy Spirit. Help us pray in the Spirit  and in truth. Remove any scales from our eyes that hinder seeing you. In Jesus name, amen
