Good morning! How are we faithing? Our programing is indeed cultural, timely and regional. Don't think so? In Maine, there has to be a foot or more of snow before it becomes bothersome. In Alabama that would cripple the whole state. In 1850 cars were not around so the care and feeding of our horses was important and the very thought of traveling great distances for Thanksgiving wasn't even a thing. Wearing little clothing in Miami is normal due to the heat but walk around in Manitoba like that and everyone would notice. My point is, where is your gauge? What is perceived as wrong or acceptable in the world varies. Not so with the Word of God. It is timeless and steadfast. It does not change with the times. Humans are the same today as in the beginning, just the stuff we do things with changes. There are some things occasionally I run across in the Word that due to culture and my upbringing makes me question motives and the point the scripture is trying to make. Like wives submitting to the husbands. People get mad in a hurry on that one. What is missed is the verses after that tell the husband how to behave towards their wives. If the whole council of God is payed attention to, the submitting doesn't become slavery or subservient, it becomes love and a marriage designed so the buck stops at the husband for he is the one that is ultimately responsible for the welfare of the family. The Word also tells those husbands to love their wives and if you love someone truly, lording anything over them isn't even palatable. I find it so interesting that the recent culture is so enamored with self. Self is selfish. Where is the line drawn for behavior? Apparently for some there isn't a line hence we see what we see on the news as of late. All I want you to see is, make sure your conscience has a firm platform to alert you to things that will harm you today or down the road. We need the Word if we expect to cultivate an conscience that will work for us and not against us.

Titus 2:1-15
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your Word that teaches us how to behave and how to live. Lord we ask for a conscience that is in tune with your way. Open the Word up to us and give us a strong desire to take in all you have for us. Open up our understanding and not our predisposed ideas that are contrary to yours. Help us recognize culture and truth and help us overcome programming that is contrary to you. Lord we lift up those struggling and those seeking. We give you the glory for all in Jesus' name, amen
