Good morning! How are we faithing? Something that has been mentioned to me many times and also recently is woman's place in the bible. Now realize the culture at the time scripture was written and women in many societies were property. Not so with Jesus. He walked a fine line as not to alienate the people by changing their culture but he also showed a better way. The woman at the well,
John 4:21-26
Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us."
Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he."
NIV
Read all of this story starting with john 4:7, very compelling story and proof that women are as important as men. He wouldn't have bothered with her if the fairer sex weren't just as important as the testosterone laden people. Also,
Luke 10:38-11:1
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
NIV
Is this a story of the lazy sister? Not at all but a story of Christ' place and importance. Here is the biggie,
Genesis 3:14-20
So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this,"Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers;he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." To the woman he said,"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;with pain you will give birth to children.Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'"Cursed is the ground because of you;through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you,and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken;for dust you are and to dust you will return." Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.
NIV
This is the story of mankind's original sin. Got further back and read more. Notice both the male and female get a smack down. Equal but different things to endure forever. Me personally, I'd rather hoe the ground than emit children from my body...but one more example, read the entire book of Ester, such an amazing story and one that shows how important women are. So read the Word with the knowledge of the culture of the authors and the times they lived but also see that without women, no man would've been raised with the smarts, values and confidence to achieve what they do. Beside every man is a great woman.
Remember today,September 11, it's been 6 years and alot of our young people were thrust into danger post attacks.
