Good morning! How are we faithing? When Jesus gave the sermon on the mount he referred to the law of Moses throughout that sermon. The points he made were to stop all the legalistic nonsense that was so prevalent. Remember the leaders at the church getting upset because Jesus healed the mans hand on the Sabbath? Those legalistic guys missed the point of the Sabbath. They were so concerned with the outside behavior and missed the inside intent. Sabbath was made so man would take a break and not to become a hell bound offense if one did something on that day. When Jesus talked on that mount he covered a lot of territory. He really drove home the whole idea that what we think is just as important and many time more important than actual deeds done. We know simply because we are alive and that any purposeful action requires forethought and if that forethought is flawed, the action will be flawed. Our bodies do not sin unaware or does it sin on its own. We must think and then act. He drives home the point by talking about plucking ones eye out or cutting off ones hand if it causes sin therefore if I have a problem with something I need to stop the exposure in order to stop the behavior. Like if lust is an issue I better not subscribe to Hustler or watch internet porn. If getting drunk and sleeping around is a problem, beer and night clubs ought to be on my "do not do" list. My body will reap the consequences of my thought pattern. When Adam and Eve were warned about eating from the tree in the garden of eden, God did not say,"I'll kill you" but he said, "you'll die". Do you see this today?
Mat 5:27-30
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your words that sustain us. Thank you for teaching us about attitude before action. Thank you for forgiving us when we screw up. Lord, grant us the wisdom to see truth and not be taken in by lies. Help us ecort and not tear down others. In Jesus name, amen
