Good morning! How are we faithing? I've heard a quote or a sentiment or what ever you call it, "Money can't buy happiness but it's easier in a Mercedes than on a bike". I understand what is trying to be conveyed but lets talk about this. Yes maybe physically we would be more comfortable but we would still be relying on things. The whole premise still remains that money can buy happiness. By still having stuff we could endure sadness? By being comfortable we could survive? If that were true there would be no suicides by the rich. If that were true there would be no alcoholic millionaires. If that were true there would be no divorces, child abuse, drug abuse etc in the well to do people. Absurd isn't it. The statement, "money can't buy happiness", starts to ring very true when we actually look at it and at the same time it does not mean the poor are happier. What it means is our reliance on things, whether abundant or lack, has zero bearing on happiness. Inner happiness can only come from God. Inner joy is something that a confidence in the grace Jesus shows us and is the only place we ever feel real happiness. Sure stuff brings us happiness but that happiness is short lived. My hot rod makes me happy but so does nature. A good meal with friends makes me happy but time in the Word causes joy. Joy is from the Lord and is permanent. When I am unhappy with my stuff or lack of stuff I can always be joyous inside because I know all this is temporary while my salvation transcends all that is around me and affecting me. If we look to anything other than God for joy we will never get there. Lack sometimes allows us to humble ourselves or rather be humbled so we can see what matters most.
Jas 1:2-4
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Jas 4:8-10
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Heavenly Father,
We ask for wisdom.. We ask to see you in everything we do. We ask for that joy that only a faith in you provides. Help us put into place everything in our lives and never forget that you are our salvation and only is our rest found. Lord pray for the lost and ask an understanding of the things we encounter today. In Jesus name we pray, amen
