Good morning! How are we faithing? As we study James you will find us referring to other scriptures and even rehashing previous verses. The truth contained in this book is so vast that as I study to bring it to you it just grows and grows. Yesterday we spoke of wavering and double mindedness. Today with vs 9-10 we will find more on this mind set theme. Look at these;
Jas 1:9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
Jas 1:10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
It is said that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter heaven. Why is that? So we should all be poor? Do all wealthy people go to hell and destitute go to heaven? These are the questions I have heard and the answer is no to both. Now check these out;
1Ti 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1Ti 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
1Ti 6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Do you see the attitude being shown? It's not the riches, it's the love of the riches over all else. A humble God fearing man who makes it big is not condemned for making it big but if he forsakes God, thinks he's better than the poor, then he becomes high minded. Think about the fall of Satan. He WAS all that and a bag of chips and then he got too big for his britches thinking he could be God and was deserving of his adoration. The verses in James we are looking at today have more points for us to study so for today we'll stop here. To be continued...
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your blessings on us. Help us to always be mindful of the mere vapor we are and reveal if we get haughty. Lord, forgive our sins. Impart wisdom when we read your Word. We do lift those people in all our lives that need you. You know who we all are lifting up to you. Bless lives. Grant clarity to all the situations. We lift our leaders up to you, In Jesus name, amen
