Good morning! How are we faithing? The first three verses today are on the same subject line as yesterday and yet is explained more. In those times there was a huge disparity in economic positions. There were the very wealthy and the very poor. There were slaves and servants. The middle class was few so people being people, there was a whole lot of favoritism for the wealthy. This was true in the Roman culture as well as the Jewish. Heck man, we see it today except there are more middle class in our society. All of that should be irrelevant to believers. We are all the same in Gods eyes. Here we see in verse 8 the writer reiterating Jesus words. We are to love others as we love ourselves. Oh that can be hard sometimes but like the old adage about loving someone but sometimes not liking them, we find truth. Verse nine is quite specific when it says respecter of persons is a sin. Let me explain something here. You can have respect for your Mom and Dad. You can respect your boss. You can respect our Governor and our President because of the position but we do not respect them with more or less love than the guy living under a bridge. The same handshake is important. The same showing of Jesus' love is important. We ought not go out of our way for one over the other. That is hard to grasp sometimes isn't it...
Jas 2:5 Hearken, my dearest brethren: Hath not God chosen the poor in this world, rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which God hath promised to them that love him?
Jas 2:6 But you have dishonoured the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you by might? And do not they draw you before the judgment seats?
Jas 2:7 Do not they blaspheme the good name that is invoked upon you?
Jas 2:8 If then you fulfil the royal law, according to the scriptures: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; you do well.
Jas 2:9 But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, being reproved by the law as transgressors.
Look at this;
Lev 19:34 But let him be among you as one of the same country. And you shall love him as yourselves: for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for loving all of us. Help us be loving to all we meet. Help us to be your ambassadors and remember we all are in need of a savior. Bless those who are ill. Show up and show off Lord. Show us all how great a God you are. Thank you for forgiving our sins, in Jesus name, amen
