Good morning! How are we faithing? You know, there's a whole lot of talk about prejudice and racism today and even though I consider myself non racist I still check myself at my front door before I go out so my culture doesn't rear its ugly head and I look at someone for anything other than their character. A real danger exists because we label different folk by social economic class. People who live in trailers are considered white trash unless it's called a camper set down by the river or a lake. Black people are considered niggers for skin color. Oriental people all eat cats and dogs of course and Irish all are drunk and beat the crap out of everyone. People who speak with a southern drawl when above the Mason Dixon are considered stupid as anyone who comes below that same line are mean invaders. Some racism or labeling I understand because I have been guilty of looking at a house and yard and make judgments based on what my eyes see. Wrong wrong wrong. We flat have not walked in anyone elses shoes but our own. We cannot make blanket statements about a group of people because of one encounter we may have had or what anyone has told us about that group. The early church ran into this same thing. They were guilty of giving good seats to affluent people for no reason but the affluence. Even back in Levitical law the people were told it was a sin to be racist. The only judgement we are to do is on each persons character and the demographics should not matter. Each person is to be met with grace and honor just like we expect to be met. Categorizing or labeling is a sin and God does not stand for it. Just think about where you are.
Lev 19:15
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
Jas 2:8-9
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your Word that is truth. Thank you for telling us how to treat others. We praise you for having love so great that the whole earth can come to you. Open our eyes to our sin so we can repent and do away with that behavior. In Jesus name we pray, amen
